Editor’s note: We’re excited to announce that one of our Mocha Club members and volunteers, Annie, will be blogging from Capetown, South Africa on the Mocha Club trip that leaves on May 28th! This is our first official “trip blogger” so please help us spread the word and check back for updates!

Hi y’all. I should have known better. I should have known that if I planned to pack on Tuesday, it would actually get done on Wednesday. I’m not a great pre-packer. And honestly, the pressure of you waiting on the video is the only reason I’m packed now. A few things:

1) I’m learning how to use this newfangled flip video camera. It’s very cool, but forgive the shaky-shakes.

2) We have a professional video editor that works with us at Mocha Club. I am not her.

3) Once I finished the video, I realized I had forgotten to pack any pants. So for total honesty’s sake, you should know that I’m going to have to pack some pants.

We leave for South Africa from Nashville on Thursday, May 28th but don’t arrive in Cape Town until Saturday. We’ll update you as soon as we are able.

I joined Mocha Club at a Dave Barnes concert because after hearing about the organization, I learned that the value of $9/month in Africa was immeasurable compared to what $9/month would be used for here in the U.S.  Through Mocha Club, I got a chance to go to South Africa and meet the people of the Cape Town townships.  We helped build a preschool where children now have a place to go during the day and hear about Jesus.  I got to see, first hand, the people that are positively impacted and forever changed through the money that people give to Mocha Club.  I will always be a member of Mocha Club because my money each month provides support for that preschool that I helped to build.  Kids are now able to have a place to go to eat, play, and experience the love of God all because I, along with the other members of Mocha Club, agreed to give up a Starbucks or two a month.  I’m humbled and honored to have the opportunity to partner with Mocha Club to serve the wonderful people of Africa.

I was blessed with the opportunity to be part of the team that traveled to Ethiopia to work with the Women At Risk program and witness first hand all that MC is doing across the globe, but also, how it’s working here; how it’s working through me.  This world belongs to us.  We are the ones that determine what our cities and towns revolve around, what our society deems important.  Those who took a chance and made the move to make the difference, they have become my new-found inspiration and the “something” I want to be part of.  While I still may be only one, I too can inspire others as The Mocha Club has allowed me the opportunity to be inspired and has opened my eyes.
