The request came at a meeting of donors to discuss the impact of a prolonged drought affecting parts of East Africa.

The UN’s World Food Programme says $285m (£173m) will be needed in the next six months. Some aid officials say the numbers of hungry could rise.

I joined Mocha Club at a Dave Barnes concert because after hearing about the organization, I learned that the value of $9/month in Africa was immeasurable compared to what $9/month would be used for here in the U.S.  Through Mocha Club, I got a chance to go to South Africa and meet the people of the Cape Town townships.  We helped build a preschool where children now have a place to go during the day and hear about Jesus.  I got to see, first hand, the people that are positively impacted and forever changed through the money that people give to Mocha Club.  I will always be a member of Mocha Club because my money each month provides support for that preschool that I helped to build.  Kids are now able to have a place to go to eat, play, and experience the love of God all because I, along with the other members of Mocha Club, agreed to give up a Starbucks or two a month.  I’m humbled and honored to have the opportunity to partner with Mocha Club to serve the wonderful people of Africa.

I joined the Mocha Club because I have a huge heart for development in Africa and hope to possibly use my education in urban planning to help improve the living conditions of people in need. Yet I realized that while these are my future goals, I was not doing anything in the present to have an immediate effect. So, when I heard about the Mocha Club at a recent Matt Wertz concert I thought, "I should do that!" and I signed up that night.
